Game Preview: Lakers vs Wolves

We are approaching the final week of the regular season, and the Lakers seem to be hitting form at just the right time heading into tonight’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves. LA currently sits at 8th in the Western Conference after winning yesterday afternoon against the Cavs, and will be looking to pick up another big win on a second night of a back-to-back. LeBron James is out tonight with flu-like symptoms, while Anthony Davis is probable. Jarred Vanderbilt, Gabe Vincent , Jalen Hood-Schifino and Christian Wood are all out as well.

Three Point Shooting

The Lakers shooting from beyond the arc has really picked up in the most recent stretch, and D’Angelo Russell is the Lakers biggest threat by far from that range. This year Russell has broken the Laker record for made threes in a season. However, other role players have also contributed during their recent run of shooting form. Taurean Prince has become a really solid contributor from three off the bench, and Rui Hachimura seems to have recaptured the shooting touch that he had in last years playoffs. They will need to continue making those shots at a high rate against a strong two-way Wolves team.

Battle of the Bigs

Tonight’s matchup will see two of the elite defensive bigs in the NBA face one another in Rudy Gobert and Anthony Davis. Both are top-tier rim protectors and the defensive anchors for their teams. It’s important that Davis wins this matchup, especially on the offensive end, to get Gobert out of the paint and allow LA space to drive to the rim. Gobert is also an elite rebounder, so LA must be locked in on the glass and not allow second-chance opportunities.

Can LA pick up another big win and move further up in the standings? Tip off is at 7pm PST as the Lakers face yet another big game in the closing stretch.
